J&K adds 174 MW Renewable Energy capacity in 5 years: GoI | KNO

Srinagar, Jul 29 (KNO): In past five years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed an increase of 174.37 MW of Renewable Energy (RE) capacity, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The house was also informed that during the period up to June 2026; the UT of Ladakh has also added 24.57 MW of RE. According to the data tabled in Parliament, Jammu and Kashmir's renewable energy addition comprises 125.78 MW of solar power, 5 MW of bio power and 43.59 MW of small hydro power, taking the total capacity added to 174.37 MW. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Ladakh during this period added 18.42 MW of solar power and 6.15 MW of small hydro power. The Ministry said India has installed 297.36 GW of non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity as of June 30, 2026, including 288.58 GW from renewable energy sources. It also said that a total of 146.5 GW of renewable energy capacity has been added across the country during the last five years including in ongoing fiscal. The ministry further said that GoI is in progress of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based installed electricity capacity by 2030. The house was also informed that renewable electricity generation in Jammu and Kashmir continues to be dominated by large hydro projects—(KNO)
